The Uganda Lands Commission has issued over 2000 freehold land titles to local residents of six villages in Ruhandagazi parish, Bugamba sub-county in Rwampara District.

Norah Bigyirwa, who represented Minister for Lands Judith Nabakooba at the handover, encouraged locals to secure their titles and avoid using them as loan security.

She urged them to use their land to improve their families’ livelihoods.

The Secretary of the Uganda Lands Commission, Andrew Mumba, noted that a land title is a legal shield protecting the land from being grabbed and is a foundation for wealth creation.

Ruhandagazi village Chairperson, Mr Moses Ngabirano, expressed gratitude to the government for resolving the land ownership issue.

Bugamba sub-county chairperson, Richard Nsiliba, urged those who received titles to use them wisely and avoid using them as loan security.

Government has used the Land Fund to acquire 372,840 acres of land across the country to resolve historical land injustices and landlord-tenant conflicts.
