Honorable Justice Baguma,

I write to you today not merely as a concerned citizen, but as someone who holds dearly the values that define the soul of our nation—justice, humanity, and integrity. My heart is heavy as I pen these words, compelled by the current circumstances surrounding the detention of Dr. Kiiza Besigye, a man who has dedicated his life to the service of our people.

Despite repeated pleas from Dr. Besigye, Your Lordship has declined to excuse yourself from hearing this case. While I respect the obligations of your office, I am compelled to ask: in moments such as these, where conscience and duty intersect, where is the voice of humanity? Where is the courage to stand as a man of integrity, if not for justice itself?

Justice Baguma, a title is more than a designation; it is a reflection of one’s character, a testament to one’s commitment to fairness, truth, and moral courage. To be called Justice is not merely to occupy a seat on the bench—it is to embody the principles that elevate our judiciary above fear, partiality, and convenience.

Dr. Besigye’s calls are not just legal formalities—they are pleas for fairness, for the recognition of dignity that every human being is entitled to. Ignoring such pleas risks not only the erosion of public trust but stains the very honor that comes with your esteemed position.

I implore you, Honorable Justice Baguma, to pause and reflect. To act not out of mere adherence to procedure, but from the higher calling of justice. Stand out as a man whose conscience is as steadfast as the law he serves. Show the people of Uganda that the title Justice is not merely an office, but a reflection of courage, integrity, and humanity.

The eyes of the nation are upon you, not in judgment alone, but in hope—hope that the scales of justice in this country can still be balanced with empathy, fairness, and moral clarity. History will remember those who chose principle over procedure, humanity over rigidity, and courage over fear.

I beseech you, Justice Baguma, to honor your title not only in name but in action. Let this moment be one where you rise above the ordinary, and stand as a beacon of justice that Uganda so desperately needs.

With profound respect and earnest appeal,

Muhimbise George
Concerned Citizen
