The Kitagwenda LCV chairperson elects hon.Efrance Kenyonyozi Atwongyere who is set to take office in May has listed key priority areas once she assumes office.
Kenyonyozi was elected unopposed after she successfully won the NRM primary elections with over 70%. She is the first female chairperson to lead as chairperson in the entire tooro and Rwenzori sub regions.
As time approaches she has listed priority areas where she will concentrate most once she takes oath.
Key priorities on the agenda for Efrance Kenyonyozi Atwongyere LCV chairperson Kitagwenda include:
- Strengthening the Parish Development Model (PDM): Enhancing PDM implementation to drive household income growth and community development.
- Reducing corruption: she says she has laid strategies to combat the growing vice of corruption especially in jobs where some civil servants take bribes promising jobs but in vain.
- Agro-Industrialization and Water for Production: Promoting irrigation initiatives (e.g., Local and micro-scale irrigation) to secure all-season farming and protect against climate change, along with adding value to agricultural products.
- Infrastructure Improvement: Focusing on road rehabilitation and maintenance to unlock market access for farmers and enhance regional trade.
- Service Delivery (Health & Education): Ensuring quality education and health services, including improving infrastructure and staffing in schools and health centres.
- Revenue Mobilization: Widening the district tax base, operationalizing property tax, and identifying new revenue sources to fund local development.
- Security and Stability: Strengthening community security to protect farmers and investors from theft and vandalism.
- Support for Vulnerable Groups: Implementing targeted interventions for youth, women, people with disabilities, and the elderly through SACCOs and other community-initiated income-generating projects.
