Kashari, 19th Oct 2025
— The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has urged National Resistance Movement (NRM) members to uphold party unity and rally behind the official flag bearers ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday evening during a thanksgiving ceremony for Mr. Patrick Musinguzi, the NRM flag bearer for Kashari North Constituency in Mbarara District, Tayebwa emphasized the need for cohesion within the party, warning that divisions could weaken its performance in the forthcoming polls.
The event, attended by several NRM flag bearers and the party’s Vice Chairperson for Western Region, Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, served as both a celebration and a platform for mobilization. Tayebwa noted that the party leadership continues to engage with candidates who lost in the primaries but have since opted to run as independents.
“Running as independents undermines the meaning of the party flag, yet we should be strengthening it,” Tayebwa said. “If we are to perform excellently as NRM, we must move forward as one united force—not with some pushing in one direction while others pull in another.”
The Deputy Speaker also interacted with local residents, acknowledging their role as the “most important pillars” of the NRM. He encouraged both leaders and voters to promote reconciliation and togetherness in the spirit of building bridges within the party.
“I urge everyone, especially our voters, to embrace one another and speak the language of unity because building bridges begins with us,” he added.
The thanksgiving ceremony reflected renewed efforts by the NRM leadership to consolidate grassroots support in Western Uganda following the party’s primary elections.
