Parliament will next week begin a validation exercise covering all its employees to establish whether they were recruited in accordance with the required procedures.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth said the exercise will be conducted by the Parliamentary Commission with support from the Public Service Commission and will cover everyone, including Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige.

The exercise follows reports that more than 300 employees were allegedly recruited during the 11th Parliament without following the required procedures.

Oboth said the validation will scrutinise staff recruitment documents and identify any irregularities, with the aim of ensuring compliance with public service recruitment standards.

In a related development, the Speaker announced plans to revive the Parliamentary Institute to provide training for Members of Parliament and technical staff, strengthen professionalism and improve institutional capacity.
