Kamwenge District LCV Chairperson Joseph Karungi has pledged to strengthen sports development in the district through the construction of a stadium and football pitches in every sub-county.

Karungi says the planned facilities will provide young people with better opportunities to identify, develop and nurture their sporting talents.

He made the remarks on Friday while flagging off 149 under-14 pupils who will represent Kamwenge District in national sports competitions in Mubende and Wakiso.

The team comprises boys’ football, girls’ netball and mixed volleyball players. Another 109 scouts will travel to the Kaazi National Scout Camp in Wakiso District.

Karungi urged the pupils to remain disciplined and use the competitions to gain experience and develop their sporting careers.

The district is, however, facing financial challenges in facilitating the team, with funds approved for the exercise yet to be released.

Karungi says investment in sports infrastructure remains a priority as the district seeks to create a strong foundation for young athletes and promote sports development across Kamwenge.
