The mortal remains of the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, have arrived in Uganda as preparations for his burial get underway.
The casket arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 10am today, Friday, September 4th, aboard a flight from the United States.
President Yoweri Museveni, the Queen Mother, and other government officials were at the airport to receive the remains.
Uganda Police draped the casket in the national and Tooro Kingdom colours before it was accorded a guard of honour.
President Museveni later paid his final respects to the fallen king and laid a wreath before the casket was taken to a waiting helicopter.
The helicopter is expected to fly the remains, accompanied by family members and government officials, to Kyegegwa District, where the next phase of the funeral programme will take place.
King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne at the age of three in 1995 and died in the United States on August 27th, 2026.
President Museveni has declared three days of national mourning from September 11th to 13th, with the late king scheduled to be laid to rest on Saturday, September 12th.
