Government has finalised preparations for the burial of the late Omukama of Toro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi the Fourth, who died in the United States aged 33.
The government says the late King Oyo, who reigned for 30 years, will receive a dignified and nationally representative send-off.
Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda says Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is coordinating a whole-of-government response to the burial.
Babalanda says government support is being provided at five key venues, including Entebbe International Airport, Karuzika Royal Palace, Waziga Royal Residency, St John’s Cathedral and the Karambi Royal Tombs.
She says government has covered the costs of repatriating the king’s remains from the United States, including medical bills and transportation.
The UPDF and Police will provide security and ceremonial support, while UPDF engineers are renovating facilities at Karuzika Royal Palace ahead of the burial.
Royal delegations from Uganda and other African countries are expected to attend the funeral.
The late King Oyo died on August 28th, after serving as Omukama of Toro for three decades.
