Kamwenge District Local Government has released funds to clear 11 months of salary arrears owed to ward councilors from the previous 23-month political term.
The district’s Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration, Peter Busobozi, says payments will be made to councilors in Bigodi, Lyakahungu, Biguli, Kabuga and Rukunyu Town Councils.
Busobozi says the remaining 12 months will be cleared in the second quarter of the 2026/27 financial year. He attributed the delays to the Ministry of Finance’s failure to release funds for newly created administrative units.
The payments follow public pressure from councilors over the unpaid arrears.
