The celebrations, commonly known as Amatikira ga Isebantu Kyabazinga, were originally scheduled for September 13 but were postponed out of respect for the mourning period following the death of the Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, on August 27, 2026.

The anniversary will now take place on Saturday, September 19, in Bunha Chiefdom.

Security personnel led by the Regional Police Commander for Busoga East, Abbas Senyonjo, together with government officials, ministers from the Kyabazinga’s cabinet (Obwakyabazinga) and heads of other security agencies, toured the venue to assess preparations and strengthen security arrangements.

The team reviewed how members of the public will access the venue, the routes ordinary attendees will use and separate routes for dignitaries attending the function.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Mayuge District, Maria Lubega, said security agencies had appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid conduct that could disrupt the celebrations.

“We are eagerly waiting for the celebration day so that together we can give the Isebantu a proper welcome,” she said.

Following the security tour, officials met the two organising committees responsible for the celebrations: the Bunha Chiefdom committee led by Prince Geofrey Mukajanga Luba and the main organising committee chaired by Third Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, Hajjat Lukia Isanga Nakadama, who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Mayuge District.

The committees discussed arrangements for the reception of the Isebantu by the chiefs and cultural leaders of Bunha, who will welcome the Kyabazinga as their “muko”, a term roughly translated as “in-law”.

Prince Mukajanga said the preparations for the celebrations were a source of honour for both Bunha Chiefdom and Busoga Kingdom.

He appealed to residents to dress appropriately for the occasion, including wearing traditional attire such as the gomesi and kanzu.

Nakadama said preparations were at an advanced stage, with organisers working to ensure everything befitting the dignity of the occasion was in place by Saturday.

She appealed to everyone assigned responsibilities to fulfil them so that the celebrations honouring the Isebantu proceed successfully.
