Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Director of Student Affairs Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, CID Director Tom Magambo has confirmed.
In a brief statement posted on Saturday, Magambo said one of the main suspects in the killing was picked up by a joint team comprising the Uganda Police Force and the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Team (JATT).
He added that police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke will provide further details in due course.
Tumwebaze, 46, was strangled at her home in Seeta, Mukono District, in the early hours of February 11, 2026.
Police previously said she was strangled after an assailant gained access to her residence at night.
The attacker reportedly fled with her mobile phone and laptop bag, although investigators have not ruled out other possible motives.
Her death sent shockwaves through the UCU community, where she had served for more than two decades in various academic and administrative roles.
Students and staff described her as compassionate and deeply committed to student welfare.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has gripped the university and the wider public.
