There is reported a suspected outbreak of anthrax in Kitagwenda district.

In a statement dated April 2nd 2026, signed by Expedito Twinomujuni on behalf of the chief administrative officer Kitagwenda, there are suspected cases in Nyakasenyi parish, Buhanda Sub County and Kabujogera town council.

According to the statement, the district veterinary and medical teams visited the affected farms and households relying on the disease history, clinical signs and symptoms for the diagnosis.

The district has conducted joint veterinary and public health investigations, with samples submitted for laboratory confirmation.

In the meantime, a temporary quarantine has been put in place

The statement adds that quarantine restrictions have been imposed in the district where all livestock markets have been closed, and movement of animals and animal products, and slaughter activities suspended.

The district urges farmers and the general public to be vigilant and report sudden animal deaths to the respective Veterinary Officers.
