The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhirwa Akiiki, has concluded his pastoral visit to Kahunge Catholic Parish with the confirmation of 855 catechumens into the Catholic faith and the installation of five catechists as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
The confirmation ceremonies were held at three worship centres under Kahunge Catholic Parish, with 240 believers confirmed at Bigodi Catholic Church, 218 at Bunoga Catholic Church and 397 at Kahunge Catholic Parish Church.
Addressing the congregation after the confirmation ceremony, Bishop Muhirwa encouraged parents and young people to embrace practical skills that are in demand on the job market, saying such skills are essential for improving household incomes and livelihoods.
During the same pastoral visit, the bishop installed five catechists as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The newly installed ministers are Stephen Alinaitwe from Kiyagara, Alex Byaruhanga of Kiziba, Gladys Kabasomi of Kyakarafa, Paul Owomwiguruwenka of Miyora and Clemensia Tumusiime from Kiyagara.
Bishop Muhirwa prayed for the newly installed ministers and urged them to serve the Church with dedication, humility and faithfulness. He emphasized the importance of commitment and obedience in fulfilling their responsibilities as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Benedict Kakwezi Araali congratulated Bishop Muhirwa on the successful completion of his pastoral visit and also commended the newly installed catechists. He urged them to remain faithful to the teachings, rules and principles of the Catholic Church as they carry out their ministry.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Parish Council of Laity, Mutabaruka Augustine Salongo, highlighted ongoing parish development initiatives aimed at strengthening church activities.
The projects include coffee growing, tree planting, poultry keeping and livestock farming, which he said are contributing to the sustainability and growth of the parish.
