Residents contesting for LC1 chairperson positions in Kibaale District have been warned against intimidating or threatening voters ahead of the July 28th, 2026 Local Council One elections.
The warning was issued by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kibaale, Godfrey Kamagara, during an interview with our reporter.
Kamagara said his office has received reports that some candidates are threatening residents by claiming that those who do not vote for them will be denied access to essential LC1 services, including recommendation letters, if they are elected.
He described such actions as illegal and contrary to the Electoral Commission guidelines, warning that any candidate found intimidating or coercing voters will face legal action.Kamagara also cautioned current LC1 chairpersons against carrying official government stamps during their routine movements, emphasizing that the stamps are government property and should not be misused to facilitate fraudulent activities or the issuance of illegal documents.
He called upon residents to exercise their democratic right peacefully and vote freely for leaders who will promote development, unity, and justice within their communities.
