Rukiri Zone has emerged as the overall winner of the Ibanda District Ball Games Championship for learners under the age of 14 after defeating Igorora zone 1-0 .

The championship was held on Wednesday at Nyakatukura Memorial Primary School playground in Bufunda Division, Ibanda Municipality, and attracted participation from eight zones across the district. The competition featured boys’ football and girls’ volleyball.

While officiating at the closing ceremony, the Ibanda District Education Officer, Peter Nsimire, encouraged pupils to actively participate in sports, pursue education, and uphold good morals and faith, saying these are essential for developing disciplined and responsible citizens.

He noted that sports provide learners with an opportunity to identify and nurture their talents while supporting their academic journey.

The Ibanda District Co-curricular Chairperson, Vincent Turyasingura, said all schools in the district participated in the championship through their respective zones, representing sub-counties and town councils.

He added that the competition is aimed at promoting talent development, teamwork, and healthy competition among learners across the district.
