Authorities in Kitagwenda District have pledged to improve the road network in Greater Buhanda Sub County, following concerns from residents over the poor state of roads in the area.
The commitment was made by Kitagwenda District LC5 Chairperson Ephrance Kenyonyozi during an exclusive interview with our reporter on the state of roads in Greater Buhanda.
Kenyonyozi said the district leadership is aware of the challenges faced by residents and road users and has made improvement of the road network a priority in the 2026/2027 financial year, particularly under the district works programme.
She said two roads have already been prioritised in the district’s work plan. These are the Kikoyo–Kibati–Bujumiro–Kengeya Roadand theKihumuro–Kitoma–Ihunga–Katooma Road.
The LC5 Chairperson said the district’s intervention is intended to improve accessibility and ease the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods within Greater Buhanda and neighbouring areas.
She added that the district will also turn its attention to other roads that require urgent rehabilitation, including Kanara Road and Kayanga Road, among others.
According to Kenyonyozi, the district has set aside approximately UGX 1 billion for road works as authorities seek to address some of the most pressing transport challenges across the district.
The planned road works are expected to boost connectivity between communities and trading centres while improving access to schools, health facilities, markets and other essential services.
Residents in Greater Buhanda have repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of roads in the area, particularly during rainy periods when some routes become difficult to use.
The district leadership says implementation of the 2026/2027 work plan will therefore focus on priority roads, with the aim of gradually improving the wider road network in Kitagwenda.
The commitment comes as local authorities face growing pressure to improve rural infrastructure and create better transport links to support economic activity and service delivery in the district.
