Ibanda Woman MP Calls for Stronger Community Engagement to Improve Service Delivery

IBANDA, UGANDA —

The Ibanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama, has called on local leaders to work closely with communities and effectively execute their responsibilities to improve service delivery.

Kaliisa made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Nyakakiri Primary School in Greater Nsasi, Ibanda Municipality.

The meeting brought together LC1 and LC2 chairpersons, division councilors, municipal councilors, PDM chairpersons and other stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting residents and identify possible solutions.

Among those who attended were Bufunda Division LC3 Chairperson Benon Keimutsya, Ibanda District Speaker Godwin Muhumuza Olanya and Ibanda District Vice Chairperson LC5 Betty Kwitegyetse.

Kaliisa urged LC1 and LC2 chairpersons to act as ambassadors of government programs by sensitizing residents about available initiatives and ensuring that communities benefit from government services.

She also stressed the importance of proper record-keeping at the grassroots, saying accurate records are essential for strengthening security and improving administration within communities.

The legislator further called on political leaders to maintain good working relationships with residents and regularly update them on government programs and projects being implemented in their respective areas.

She said cooperation between political leaders, local leaders and residents is key to addressing community challenges, improving service delivery and ensuring that government programs reach their intended beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Fred Banywana, the Deputy Mayor of Ibanda Municipality, urged residents to join groups or categories that they can comfortably afford to contribute to.

Banywana cautioned residents against joining groups whose financial requirements are beyond their means, advising them to choose categories that match their financial capacity so they can meet their obligations effectively.

Residents of Greater Nsasi welcomed the initiative, saying it would help address some of the challenges affecting the community.

They appreciated the engagement between local leaders and residents and called for continued cooperation to ensure that the project is successfully implemented and benefits the intended beneficiaries.

The residents also urged community members to actively participate in the project and take advantage of the opportunities it presents to improve their livelihoods.
