The Member of Parliament for Kitagwenda County, Hon. Robert Mugabe, has raised fresh concern over the persistent shortage of clean and safe water in Kitagwenda District, warning that residents have continued to endure the crisis for years without a lasting solution.
Hon. Mugabe raised the matter on the floor of Parliament during the plenary sitting on Wednesady, 26 August 2026, drawing attention to the difficulties faced by communities that continue to struggle to access reliable water sources.
The legislator told the House that the water crisis remains a serious challenge for residents across Kitagwenda, affecting not only individual households but also schools and health facilities.
The shortage means that many residents, particularly in areas affected by prolonged dry conditions, have to walk considerable distances in search of water.
The burden is particularly heavy for households that depend on nearby natural or community water sources, which can become scarce during dry seasons.
The situation also has wider implications for public health and education.
Schools require adequate water for drinking, sanitation and hygiene, while health facilities depend on a consistent supply to maintain sanitary conditions and provide safe services to patients.
For families, prolonged water shortages can increase the amount of time spent collecting water, disrupting household activities, education and other economic activities.
Kitagwenda District, located in Western Uganda, has experienced recurring water scarcity, particularly during dry seasons.
Responding to the concern raised in Parliament, the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, assured the House that government would intervene to address the situation.
