Kitagwenda Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Dorothy Nyakato Nzibonera, has urged government to urgently construct Mpanga Bridge permanently to address the persistent disruption of transport during the rainy season.
The bridge has repeatedly been washed away by overflowing waters, leaving communities on either side struggling to cross and disrupting the movement of people, goods and services.
Speaking during a plenary session of Parliament, Nzibonera raised the matter before the House, calling on government to prioritize the construction of a permanent bridge as a lasting solution to the recurring problem.
She said continued flooding of the bridge poses a major challenge to residents and other road users, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
In response, the Government Chief Whip assured Parliament that the matter would be followed up with the relevant authorities.
Residents of Kitagwenda are now awaiting government action to ensure Mpanga Bridge is permanently reconstructed and transport is no longer interrupted whenever heavy rains occur.
