Luku James Pilli has won the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election, emerging as the party’s flag bearer with 9,336 votes.

According to results declared by the NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Adjumani District, Chandmale Amos, Pilli secured 37.2 percent of the 25,130 votes cast.

He was closely followed by Ben Anyama, who polled 9,152 votes, representing 36.4 percent. Daniel Izale came third with 3,923 votes, or 15.6 percent.

Justine Mawadri followed with 1,424 votes, while Richard Madrara Obuni, Nixon Owole and Ali Kassim polled 915, 284 and 96 votes respectively.

The results, dated September 3, were signed by Chandmale Amos, who also serves as the NRM District Elections Officer and returning officer for the primary.

Pilli will now represent the NRM in the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election.

The contest between Pilli and Anyama was particularly tight, with only 184 votes separating the two leading candidates.

The Adjumani West parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former MP and former Second Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Moses Ali, who represented the constituency on the NRM ticket.
