Agaba Abbas Mugisha, a former parliamentary election opponent of Kitagwenda County MP Robert Mugabe Omutembuzi, has failed to appear before police for questioning over allegations of forgery and uttering false documents.

Mugisha had been summoned to the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional CID Office on September 10th to record a statement, but he did not appear.

Police have reportedly summoned him again to reappear on Monday, September 14th, as investigations continue into a disputed driving permit presented in an election petition challenging Mugabe’s eligibility to obtain a National Identification Card.

Mugabe alleges that the document presented in court was not his genuine driving permit and contained altered details, including the permit number.

He says he has handed over the original permit and supporting information to investigators to help establish the truth.

Mugabe has welcomed the investigation, saying political competition should not be used to undermine citizens’ rights.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the allegations against Mugisha have not been proven in court.
