MBARARA- School reopening in parts of Uganda has been marred by a road crash along the Mbarara–Bushenyi highway, with reports indicating that students travelling back to school for the new term were involved in the incident.

The students were reportedly returning to school ahead of the new term, which begins on September 14, when the crash occurred. Images from the scene show a truck and other vehicles involved in the accident, with debris scattered along the road.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of learners travelling to school as schools across the country reopen. However, details regarding the number of students involved, possible injuries and the exact cause of the crash were not immediately available.

Meanwhile, Kamuli authorities have ordered schools to begin teaching immediately as learners report for the new term, calling for the academic programme to proceed without unnecessary delays.

Parents, school administrators and motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution during the school reopening period, when roads are expected to experience increased traffic from learners and families travelling across the country.
