Motorists and residents along the Mahyoro–Buhindagye Road in Kitagwenda County are set to receive temporary relief after the Ministry of Works and Transport agreed to carry out spot grading on the road.

The development was announced by Kitagwenda County Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert Mugabe, following his recent appeal to the Ministry to intervene in the deteriorating condition of the road.

In a statement, Mugabe said the Ministry had agreed to undertake spot grading to restore the road’s motorability and address deep gullies that have developed along the affected sections.

“The Ministry of Works has decided to undertake spot grading on the Mahyoro–Buhindagye Road to make it motorable and address the existing gullies,” Mugabe said.

According to the legislator, the Ministry expects to receive additional resources in Quarter Two (Q2), after which a full set of road equipment will be deployed to carry out more comprehensive grading works.

The Mahyoro–Buhindagye Road, which links Kitagwenda with neighbouring districts, has reportedly been in poor condition for several months. Deep gullies, muddy sections and waterlogged spots have made movement difficult, particularly during the rainy season.

The deteriorating road has also affected the movement of agricultural produce, trade and access to essential social services for communities along the route.

Mugabe said the latest intervention follows a letter he wrote on August 3, 2026, to the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, requesting urgent rehabilitation and eventual tarmacking of the Ibanda–Kabujogera–Mahyoro–Kyambura and Kabujogera–Kamwenge roads.

In an earlier response dated September 10, 2026, the Ministry indicated that it would consider interim maintenance measures as efforts continued towards full upgrading of the roads.

The Ministry also noted that the existing road design is more than three years old and requires updating before implementation, subject to the availability of funds.

Residents have welcomed the planned spot grading, describing it as a temporary measure that could improve accessibility while they await the long-promised tarmacking of the strategic road.
