Christians of Kihumuro Church of Uganda parish in Kitagwenda district have raised more than 15 million shillings towards completing the roofing of their church.
The fundraising drive was held at Kihumuro Church of Uganda Parish Headquarters
The chief guest, Kitagwenda County MP Hon. Robert Mugabe Omutembuzi, was accompanied by Members of Parliament under the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus, who collectively contributed more than 12.3 million shillings towards the project.
Mugabe said he was moved to support the church after its leaders approached him and asked for assistance to complete the roofing.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Alex Kamugisha, commended Mugabe for what he described as non-segregative leadership and for supporting development initiatives in the community.
Kamugisha said construction of Ntuntu Church started in 2014 but stalled at wall-plate level in 2016. When he was transferred to the parish in 2024, he found the building still at the same stage and mobilised Christians to resume construction, particularly the roofing works.
The roofing project requires 400 versatile iron sheets, each costing 100,000 shillings. So far, 300 iron sheets have been installed, leaving a balance of 100 sheets worth 10 million shillings.
The church also requires 12 million shillings for metallic bars and other roofing materials, as well as 10 million shillings for labour, bringing the total amount needed to complete the roofing to 32 million shillings.
Meanwhile, the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson, Lawrence Akugizibwe, commended Mugabe for what he described as good legislative work, but questioned why Kitagwenda remains the only district in Tooro without a tarmac road.
Christians applauded Hon. Mugabe and the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus for their contribution towards the completion of the church project.
So far, more than 15 million shillings has been solicited towards the 32-million-shilling roofing project.
