The Works and Transport Minister is expected to visit Kitagwenda District on October 9th to assess the condition of a key road in the district.

The visit has been welcomed by the Kitagwenda County Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert Mugabe, who says it will provide an opportunity for the Minister to assess the road challenges facing the district.

Mugabe made the remarks on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while speaking on the floor of Parliament during a ministerial statement on the performance of the Works and Transport sector.

He says Kitagwenda continues to face challenges in maintaining its roads due to inadequate road equipment.

Mugabe says the district received a motor grader and a wheel loader in May 2024 under the Government programme to equip newly created districts with complete road equipment units, but the remaining equipment has not yet been delivered.

He says the shortage of machinery has forced the district to use part of its one-billion-shilling annual road maintenance allocation to hire equipment, reducing the funds available for road maintenance.

Mugabe says he expects the Minister’s visit to provide an opportunity to address the equipment shortage and other road maintenance challenges affecting Kitagwenda.
