The ministry of energy has officially committed to extending the national power grid to Bukurungo town council in Kitagwenda District.

This major development—heavily lobbied for by area MP hon.Robert Mugabe will reach Bukurungo Town Council which has been the only administrative unit without power, following prior grid connections.

In a letter dated February 25th February 2026 addressed to the permanent secretary ministry of energy and mineral development, hon.Robert Mugabe asked the ministry to address the stalled electricity project which was contracted in 2016/17 financial year.

He noted that the project aimed at generating electricity from maize cobs and included the installation of poles and wires but has never been completed, leaving residents without power.

In response, Eng. Abdon Atwiine the permanent secretary said that verifications and technical surveys will be conducted to establish the feasibility of the proposed electricity extension. He added that the ministry will consider the extension when funds are available.
