Residents of Mitwe Cell in Nyabihoko Parish, Buhanda Sub-county, Kitagwenda District have been left in shock following the sudden death of their newly elected LC1 chairperson, Benon Mbabazi.

Mbabazi, who was elected LC1 chairperson during the Local Council elections held on Tuesday, reportedly passed away in the early hours of today at his home.

According to sources close to the family, his health deteriorated suddenly, prompting his wife to alert neighbours. Despite efforts by residents to respond, Mbabazi had already died by the time they reached his home.

His untimely death has stunned residents and members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who had hoped he would continue serving and leading the community after his recent electoral victory.

Police was alerted and took his body to Ruhoko health centre four for a postmortem.

Mbabazi’s passing creates a vacancy in the LC1 leadership of Mitwe Cell, with the process for filling the position expected to be communicated by the relevant authorities.

The cause of death had not yet been officially confirmed by the time of publication.
