Independent candidate Nyangoma Edith has withdrawn from the race for LC1 Chairperson of Migiina Cell, Kanoni Sub County, Kazo district throwing her support behind the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Ambikire Colleb, ahead of Saturday’s repeat election.
Her withdrawal follows a reconciliation meeting convened by Kazo District Woman MP Hon. Dan Kimosho, which brought together District Speaker Dan Bwamunyoga, LC3 councillors, and other local leaders to ease tensions following violence that disrupted the initial vote.
The first election, held on Tuesday, was called off after violence and chaos broke out at the polling station, prompting electoral authorities to schedule a fresh poll.
In a withdrawal letter dated July 29, Nyangoma said her decision was made voluntarily in the interest of promoting peace, unity, and development in Migiina Sub-county.
“I have decided to step down for the unity and development of Migiina Sub-county and the NRM party,” she wrote.
Local leaders welcomed the move, expressing hope that the repeat election will be conducted peacefully and without further disruptions.
