The Kamwenge District Electoral Commission has concluded women council elections in six of the district’s 18 sub-counties, with candidates in the remaining 12 sub-counties going unopposed.
Speaking to our reporter, Kamwenge District Returning Officer George William Magezi said all candidates who went unopposed in the 12 sub-counties were National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers.
Magezi said nominations for the Kamwenge District Women Council elections will be held on August 24, 2026, while polling is scheduled for August 28 at the district headquarters.
He said the district-level elections will be conducted using the secret ballot system.
According to Magezi, only four positions are being contested at the district level. These are chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary for publicity and secretary for finance.
The district electoral commission is expected to oversee the elections as candidates seek to fill the designated women council leadership positions at the district level.
