Residents and boda boda riders in Kagongo Division, Ibanda Municipality, have called for urgent government intervention over the poor state of the Ibanda–Katoma–Kagongo road.
The 2.1-kilometre road, which connects Ibanda town to Kagongo Division and extends towards Kitagwenda District, is reportedly riddled with potholes and dust.
Residents say recent attempts to repair the damaged sections using murram have provided only temporary relief, with the road becoming particularly dusty during dry weather.
They accuse the Ministry of Works and local leaders of carrying out temporary repairs mainly ahead of national events or visits by senior government officials.
The residents claim potholes are often covered with murram to give the impression that the road has been repaired, while its condition continues to deteriorate.
They are now appealing to the Minister of State for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, to intervene and explain why the road has not received permanent rehabilitation despite repeated complaints.
The residents and boda boda riders say a proper upgrade of the road would improve transport, reduce dust and accidents caused by potholes, and ease movement between Ibanda Municipality and neighbouring areas.
