Residents near landing sites along greater Mahyoro have threaten to demonstrate over rising crocodile attacks due to Uganda wildlife authority delays in trapping and relocating the reptiles.

UWA had promised to translocate the crocodiles to Lake Kibwera in Queen Elizabeth national park following a petition by the area member of parliament, Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe wrote to UWA demanding an action from UWA following consistent crocodile attack that claimed lives especially in Kanyabikyere, Nyakera, and Kainja landing sites.

Communities often accuse wildlife authorities (such as the Uganda Wildlife Authority) of failing to act or lacking staff to remove aggressive crocodiles.

Residents especially from Kanyabikyere where most lives have been lost, say they are preparing to hold a peaceful demonstration demanding an explanation from UWA why they have kept a deaf ear for months.

UWA only managed to translocate one crocodile from Kanyabikyere after Hon. Mugabe’s concern.

Our reporter is yet to get a comment from Uganda wildlife Authority over the matter.
