The Member of Parliament for Kitagwenda County, Hon. Robert Mugabe, has assured residents of Kitagwenda Town Council that their buildings and business structures will not be demolished arbitrarily as authorities enforce the ongoing trade order.
Mugabe made the remarks yesterday while attending the send-off ceremony of the late Andrea Flugence in Kyaruhinga Village, Kicwamba Ward, Kitagwenda Town Council.
The legislator said several residents had approached him expressing concern and anxiety over alleged threats by town council authorities to demolish structures deemed to be in violation of the trade order.
Mugabe acknowledged the concerns but urged residents to remain calm, saying there was no need for panic.
He cited the Physical Planning Act, arguing that the absence of regulations specifically guiding demolitions means that no person’s structure should be brought down arbitrarily.
“I have been receiving calls from people worried that their structures will be demolished. I want to assure you, no one will demolish your structures. Let us all abide by the trade order, keep our town clean and organized, but don’t be anxious,” Mugabe said.
The MP nevertheless urged traders, business owners and other residents to cooperate with the town council and comply with the trade order requirements, stressing that efforts to organize the town should be carried out without intimidation.
The enforcement of the trade order in Kitagwenda Town Council has in recent weeks generated mixed reactions, with some traders expressing fears that their businesses and property could be affected.
Mugabe’s reassurance has since eased concerns among residents, particularly those who had feared losing their structures during the enforcement exercise.
