Parliament has paid tribute to the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognising his contribution to cultural preservation, national unity, youth empowerment, public health and tourism.
The motion was moved by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja under Rule 58 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure on Thursday.
Parliament extended condolences to Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, the Tooro Royal Family and the people of Tooro.
Lawmakers praised King Oyo for promoting cultural values, education, youth skills and tourism, as well as advocating for HIV/AIDS prevention among young people.
King Oyo, who ascended the throne at the age of three in 1995, died in the United States on August 27 at the age of 34 after receiving treatment for cancer.
His body left Dallas on Wednesday and is expected to arrive in Uganda on Friday.
President Museveni, who granted the late King an official burial, is expected to lead government officials and cultural leaders in receiving the remains at Entebbe International Airport.
The body will later be taken to Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal, where Tooro’s nine-day official mourning period will begin.
