Labour Day Reflection Message from the LCV Chairperson Kitagwenda

Theme: “Safeguarding Uganda’s Progress: Empowering the Workforce and Promoting Decent Work for Competitive Enterprises”

Fellow Citizens, Residents, and Workers of our District,

Today, we join the rest of the world to celebrate International Labour Day-a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of our workers across every field and industry.

On this day, I stand with you to honour the relentless spirit of hard work and dedication that defines our community. From the farmers in our villages, the “mama mbogas,” and the boda boda riders, to the teachers, nurses, civil servants, and private sector employees-you are the true engine of our economic development.

Reflections on the Past Year
This past year has brought both opportunities and challenges. However, the resilience of our local workforce has been unmatched. Your dedication has kept our community moving forward, and your sweat has paved the way for our growth.

Commitment to the Future
As your leadership, we recognize that our progress is built on your shoulders. Therefore, this year, we are renewing our commitment to:

  • Champion Decent Work: Ensuring that every worker-whether in formal or informal sectors-enjoys a safe working environment and fair treatment.
  • Empowerment: Working alongside central government initiatives, like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to provide industrial tools, skills training, and capital to create more jobs, particularly for our youth and women.
  • Solidarity against Corruption: We call upon all workers to uphold integrity, as corruption undermines the dignity of labour and halts community development.

A Call to Action
While we celebrate the successes, I urge you to look forward. We must embrace productivity, skill development, and solidarity. No work is small, and every effort counts toward our shared goal of a prosperous Uganda.

To our unsung heroes-those working in the informal sector, those working in essential services—we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.

Enjoy this well-deserved break with your families. Let us recharge and prepare to continue building our district with passion.

Happy Labour Day!

Signed,
Kenyonyozi Efrance Atwongyere
Chairperson LCV elect, Kitagwenda District.
