An expectant mother, Agnes Kirabo, suffered a miscarriage at Bwizi Health Centre III in Kamwenge District, alleging that a delay in staff reporting for duty led to the incident.

The concerns came to light after Agnes, a resident of Biguli Sub-county, reportedly arrived at the health facility at around 7:00am on Monday, June 29, 2026, seeking antenatal care.

Kirabo alleges that upon arrival there were no medical personnel available to attend to her until she went into labour and gave birth in the hospital toilet.

Local officials, including District Chairperson Joseph Karungi, attributed the negligence to a severe staff shortage, which was exacerbated by the loss of NGO-funded workers.

The facility in-charge, Tuhimbise Abdenego, was yet to comment on the matter.

When contacted, Dr William Mucunguzi, the Kamwenge District Health Officer, said the district will investigate the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against any health workers found culpable.
