Students from Kamwenge District who secured admission to public universities under the Government Sponsorship (National Merit) programme are in the final stages of preparing to report to their respective institutions.
The preparations include collecting admission letters, paying functional fees, and completing the required physical registration before the start of the academic year.
Recently, Kamwenge District, led by the District Education Officer, Stephen Barineitwe, officially flagged off the students admitted to various public universities under the government sponsorship programme.
Among the beneficiaries are Edgar Tugeineyo and Allan Kakuru, both former students of Green Hill High School Kamwenge. Speaking to our reporter, the two said they are making final arrangements to join Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology, respectively.
The students expressed excitement about the opportunity to pursue higher education under government sponsorship, saying it is the fulfillment of their academic ambitions.
They also commended Green Hill High School for offering bursaries and academic support that enabled them to excel in their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations and qualify for government sponsorship.
The duo encouraged other students to remain focused on their studies, noting that discipline, hard work, and determination can open doors to similar opportunities.
