Dairy farmers in Kiruhura District have been encouraged to improve both the quality and quantity of milk production while intensifying vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) to access better markets.
The call was made during a meeting between the management of Vital Tomos Dairy Factory in Rushere Town, district leaders and dairy farmers to discuss ways of strengthening milk production and marketing.
During the meeting, factory management said they are ready to buy more milk from local farmers at negotiable prices, provided it meets the required quality standards.
Speaking at the meeting, the Plant Manager of Vital Tomos Dairy Limited, Lawrence Mbubu, said the factory is facing a shortage of milk and is committed to working with farmers to increase production and improve milk quality.
Kiruhura District LCV Chairperson, Dan Mukago, welcomed the initiative by the factory management and urged farmers to continue producing and supplying high-quality milk to meet the growing demand. He also encouraged livestock farmers to vaccinate their animals against Foot and Mouth Disease to safeguard the dairy industry and improve market opportunities.
