Authorities at Mahyoro Secondary School in Kitagwenda District are optimistic that the institution will register improved academic performance and development following the construction of additional classrooms and sanitation facilities.

Government recently launched the construction of a three-classroom block and a ten-stance latrine at the school under the Uganda Secondary Education and Expansion Project, USSEP.

Speaking to our reporter, the Chairperson of the School Board of Governors, Dr. Eric Nzibonera, who heads the Accounting section at Makerere University, said the new facilities will improve the learning environment and create better conditions for students and teachers.

He said the school also expects enrolment to increase from the current population of more than 500 students, while maintaining its academic performance.

Mahyoro Secondary School emerged as the best-performing school in the Arts category in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education results.

Dr. Nzibonera attributed the school’s performance to cooperation among parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders, urging them to maintain the teamwork for continued success.
