School Management Committees in Kitagwenda District have been challenged to closely monitor government projects being implemented in their respective schools to ensure that public funds are put to proper use.
The call was made today by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Phillip Nabaasa, during the handover of the site for the renovation of two classroom blocks comprising six classrooms at Buryansungwe Primary School.
Nabaasa urged School Management Committees and other school leaders to take responsibility for monitoring the quality and progress of government-funded projects. He said their reports would guide district authorities in making decisions on whether to approve contractors’ work, retain them, or cancel contracts where necessary.
The Kitagwenda District Education Officer, Sedas Asiimwe, urged the school administration and staff to work hard to improve academic performance, saying better results would help the school attract more support from the district.
The head teacher of Buryansungwe Primary School, Leonard Atayebwa, commended the district for supporting the school, particularly after strong winds destroyed part of its classroom infrastructure in 2025.
Atayebwa pledged to work with teachers and the school community to improve the school’s academic performance.
Kitagwenda District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Kenyonyozi Efrance Atwongere, warned contractors against doing shoddy work, cautioning that those who fail to meet the required standards risk having their contracts terminated.
Efrance also commended Buryansungwe Primary School for maintaining good performance in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), urging the school to sustain and further improve its results.
The district team later launched a similar project at Kitagwenda High School before proceeding to Kinyamugara Parish, where they commissioned a water project aimed at improving access to safe and reliable water for the community.
