St. Stella Maris Girls Secondary School in Kitagwenda District has received a five-stance VIP latrine for girls under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project.

The facility was commissioned during a ceremony attended by local leaders, education officials, school administrators, and other stakeholders.

Speaking during the commissioning, Kitagwenda District LCV Chairperson Efrance Kenyonyozi commended the Ministry of Education and the government for supporting the girls’ school through the project.

Kenyonyozi also cautioned contractors working on the project against engaging in inappropriate relationships with students, urging them to focus on their contractual duties and ensure the safety of the learners.

Meanwhile, Kitagwenda District Education Officer Sedas Asiimwe called upon the Parents and Teachers Association and the Board of Governors to take good care of the facility.

Asiimwe said proper management and maintenance of the project could help the school benefit from similar government projects in future.

The Headteacher of St. Stella Maris Girls Secondary School, Sr. Mildred Kyahurwa, thanked the government for its continued support to the school.

She cited government support in supervision, capitation grants, payment of staff salaries, and provision of scholastic materials as some of the interventions benefiting the school.

The new facility is expected to improve sanitation and hygiene for girls at St. Stella Maris Girls Secondary School.
